Are You in Relational Bankruptcy?

In the Prevention Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) and the Center for Servant Leadership workshops, Playing Nice in the Sandbox and Winning the Workplace Challenge, we primarily cover the importance of relationships at work.

Did you know that Americans, on average, spend at least 46 hours a week at work? We spend more time on the job than we do at home, so it begs the question: Shouldn’t work be a place of enjoyment?

The Workplace Disengagement Theory

However, not everyone finds fulfillment with their work or the people they work with. The Workplace Disengagement Theory says:

• People usually don’t hate their job on the 1st day.

• Loyalty and aspirations erode over time because of poorly handled disagreements and unmet expectations.

• The negative can kill the positive.

Take a moment to reflect on relationships in your life that demonstrate that this is true.
