3 Things to Expect from a Good Leader

Good leadership might sound like an oxymoron but bestselling author Jim Hunter defines leadership as the skill of influence, and everyone has influence. If you are expecting to grow, you'd better hope your leader has these traits.

The following are three things you can expect from a good leader:

1.  Active Listener. "You cannot truly listen to anyone and do anything else at the same time,” said M. Scott Peck. A good leader listens first. She wants to be fully informed before making a decision.

2.  Lifelong Learner. Knowledge is power and if used for good, it can change the world. A good leader understands the value of information and instruction. As the Chinese Proverb says, “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.”

3.  Seeks Wise Counsel. My favorite verse of any Scripture or quote is Proverbs 13:30 which says, “He who walks with wise men shall be wise but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” A good leader surrounds herself with people who have her best interest at heart.

What do you think? If you agree, please share with your coworkers.
