The True Spirit of Servant Leadership

iLeade2Serve is a servant leadership blog. However, I am still trying to discard the myth that the world's greatest leadership philosophy is soft. I have a concern that is bothering me. And I want to share it with you.

The most prolific servant leaders in the history of the world spoke truth to power. They disagreed with the ruling structures of their day.

Many of these servant leaders were great orators. Others were great writers. Several of them were both. They believed in non-violence. They were uplifting. And their messages were steeped in love. But they were willing to call a spade a spade.

They did not have daily blogs. News coverage of them was usually negative. They marched in the streets. They held sit-ins and boycotts. For their efforts, they were vilified, beaten, and even killed.

Let us not forget the true spirit of this ancient philosophy. Servant leadership is about love, forgiveness, a keen understanding of self; most of all, it is a journey.
