What Are You Afraid Of?

According to, courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain…without fear; bravery.

Jim enjoys his job at XYZ Corp. For someone in his mid-40s, he has a lot of talent and a wealth of knowledge. He’s been in the industry for 25 years. Co-workers frequently flock to him for assistance with projects.

In his chosen career path, Jim has as much skill as anyone in the company but that’s about as far as it goes with him.

He has never applied for a leadership position in any company he's ever worked for and when asked to take the lead on a project or committee he complains.

Jim’s problem: He’s afraid.

Leadership Lesson for Jim: As my late grandmother, Mrs. Essie Mae Brundidge, used to tell me, "Be of good courage."
