Don't Rush Your Life Away

One Wednesday afternoon, a little over a year ago, a friend of mine asked me how was I doing. I responded by saying I could not wait until the weekend.

That resulted in one of those freeze-framed moments when he said, “Don’t rush your life away.” Since then I have been on a quest to live in the present.

Some days are better than others. As a result, there are a lot present moments I do not remember. If our thoughts do indeed make us who we are, then I am guilty of living in the future.

I am the one who used to speak to people, particularly the young, and tell them I lived in the future because when I got there I didn’t want to be surprised. It takes a high level of awareness (and/or focus) to live in the present.

The most important question I ask myself these days is, “What’s important now?”

That seems to work for me. How about you? Do you live in the present? If so, what works for you?
